The Retreat
Amuri Estate Retreat is an elegant alpine retreat, situated between Kaikoura and Christchurch in Hanmer Springs. The retreat offers tranquility and privacy amidst a spectacular setting of snow-capped mountains in the winter and huge clear blue skies the year round.
The park-like grounds include an olive grove, small fruit and nut orchard, vegetable and flower gardens. Our philosophy is to reflect the surrounding high alpine character and beauty on our property while producing our extra virgin olive oil, fruit and vegetables in a sustainable way. We use organic produce from our gardens in the guest accommodation and for breakfasts.
As daylight fades, you can relax on your private patio with a favourite drink and watch the last of the sun’s rays illuminate the peaks, or gather with other guests by the fire in the living rooms for cocktails and conversation.

The Retreat’s design is contemporary, and offers three guest rooms in the main house and a private, separate self contained cottage.
Guests have exclusive use of the large formal living room, and an expansive open-plan dining room and kitchen area which feature floor-to-ceiling windows and large decks to showcase the captivating views. Massive exposed Macrocarpa rafters line the high cathedral ceilings in both the living and dining rooms, which are linked by a double-sided stone clad fireplace.
All rooms and the cottage are positioned to take full advantage of the mountains and river views.
